Jang group at it again

While searching for an authentic source of the press statement issued by the Vatican about the killing of Osama bin Laden, I came across this news story at AsiaNews.it. According to them:

The Pakistani newspaper The News reported today on its website only part of the Vatican statement, saying: "The Vatican said that" Osama Bin Laden was gravely responsible for promoting division and hatred between peoples". No word on the Vatican’s call "not to rejoice" over the death of a man, or create opportunities for "further growth of hate".

Now in my previous post, I quoted this part of the Vatican's statement which gave a very sensible message to the people:

"Faced with the death of a man, a Christian never rejoices, but reflects on the serious responsibility of each and every one of us before God and before man, and hopes and commits himself so that no event be an opportunity for further growth of hatred, but for peace".

I searched on the News' website to confirm what exactly was reported and found it here. The whole story published on 2 May 2011 on the website is this:

VATICAN CITY: Osama bin Laden bore "great responsibility (for spreading) division and hatred between peoples," the Vatican said Monday.

The newspapers, including the Jang Group, have the freedom to quote selected parts of a statement. However, those who have followed what has happened to the minorities, especially the Christians, in this country will share my concern over the kind of message the Jang Group is giving to its readers. It would have been wise to quote the entire statement to avoid reinforcing the mindset of religious fanatics and Osama sympathizers with stereotypical portrayal of the Vatican. But I guess common sense and sensitivity is too much to expect from the group.
